What Is Powder Coating?
Powder coating is a dry finishing process. Pigment goes on as a fine powder rather than a liquid, then heat cures it so it flows out and bonds into one hard, even shell. With no solvent to run, sag, or drip, it lays down more uniformly than wet paint and stands up better to chipping, abrasion, and weather.
We run powder coating in-house at our Cartersville shop, curing in a 30ft oven that takes everything from small brackets to long fabricated sections. Because we blast and coat under the same roof, parts move straight from bare metal into coating without sitting around collecting flash rust — and you deal with one crew for the whole job instead of a blaster and a separate finisher.

How It Works
Parts get blasted to a clean, even profile first, because powder needs something to key into just as much as liquid paint does. The powder is then applied electrostatically — the part is grounded and the powder carries a charge, so it wraps onto edges, corners, and recesses that wet paint tends to run off or thin out on.
From there it goes into the oven. Heat melts the powder so it flows out and cures into one continuous film rather than drying as a layer sitting on top. Nothing evaporates off, so there is no solvent flash, no runs, and no sags — which is why the finish comes out more uniform than a sprayed liquid coat, particularly on complicated shapes.
What to Expect
This is shop work by definition: the part has to fit the oven and has to tolerate curing heat. Our oven is 30ft, which takes considerably more than most shops can, but there is still a limit — and assemblies with non-metal components, bearings, or sealed cavities need discussing before they arrive rather than after.
Because blasting and coating happen under the same roof, parts move from bare metal into powder without sitting around picking up flash rust. Turnaround depends on batch size and how much coating has to come off first.

Common Questions
How large a part can you powder coat?
The 30ft oven sets the limit, and it accommodates long fabricated sections that most shops have to turn away. Send dimensions and we will confirm before you haul anything.
Is powder coating tougher than paint?
For chipping and abrasion resistance, generally yes. It cures into a single continuous film rather than drying as a surface layer, which is what makes it harder wearing.
Do parts need blasting first?
Yes. Adhesion depends on a clean, properly profiled surface — powder applied over rust or old coating will fail regardless of how well it is cured.
Can you coat an assembled item?
It depends entirely on what is in it. Anything that will not tolerate oven heat, or any non-metal component, has to come out first. Tell us what the piece is and we will advise.
